Therapy Services

Behavior Consultation for the Developmental Disabilities/ Medical Fragile and Mi Via Waivers

Behavior Consultation for the Developmental Disabilities/ Medical Fragile and Mi Via Waivers

Behavior Consultation for the Developmental Disabilities/ Medical Fragile and Mi Via Waivers

Rio Vista Counseling-LLC has implemented the following Positive Behavioral Support Consultation Model.

1. We complete a very comprehensive positive assessment that focuses on all aspects of our client’s life.

2. Then a Positive Behavior Support Plan is development to address the findings in the assessment.

3.  Once the Plan is developed it is presented to the client and the IDT for feedback and approval. If the client and team give additional information and feedback this information is added in the plan. We have found that the more input from the Client and the IDT, the more compliance and “buy in “we have on the plan.

4. The client, team and staff are fully trained by the behavioral support consultant on both the assessment and plan. We have found that by training on the assessment there is a better understanding as to why the behavior exist and why various interventions and supports outlined in the plan are needed.

5. Once the training is complete the Behavior Support Consultant will monitor the implementation of the plan on a regular basis. We will look for additional interventions or will make modifications to interventions if needed. We also look to ensure that the implementation is being done correctly and we will re-train staff if needed.

6. We also will meet with the client, staff, and team on a regular basis to address the routine or urgent needs that come up. We provide routine counseling to avoid crisis situations if possible and to maintain a positive working relationship with the client and the team.

7. We also supplement our consultation work with group therapy to this allow for the client to have a safe place to address their needs/concerns without staff in ear shot and to practice the skills outlined in the PSBP with their peers, or in the community and to gain peer feedback on their issues and concerns.

8. We attend all IDT meetings to ensure comprehensive services and support to the client and the Team.

9.  We will collaborate with medical personnel, ancillary therapies, and Provider Agencies of Living Supports (Family Living, Supported Living, IMLS), CIHS, CIE, and CCS to promote coherent and coordinated support efforts, including mutual scheduling of timely training sessions

Individual Counseling

Individual therapy is with one client and one therapist. Individual sessions with a therapist average about 45 minutes to one hour long. . Psychology is the science of understanding human behavior, thought, emotion and perception. Therapy strives to help people better understand themselves and their problems in order to cope with the demands of their daily lives.

RVC uses Cognitive behavioral therapy to examines thoughts, feelings and behaviors and the relationships and patterns between them. In individual Cognitive behavioral therapy, the therapist works with the client to set goals for coping with problems in the client's life. This may involve replacing negative thought patterns with positive ones or the goal may be steps to take to face a specific fear, such as flying in an airplane.

Psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapies strive for personal growth through insight into the subconscious as well as the conscious mind. The therapist uses techniques such as word association to help reveal feelings and wishes that may add insight into the client's actions and conscious thoughts. Since the focus in this type of therapy is on the mind and inner workings of the individual, psychoanalytic therapies are traditionally and typically done on an individual rather than group therapy basis.
